My New Dictionary

So I bought a Kindle (e-reader). I had no intention of buying one. I don't like to read a screen. And I love the feel of books.

But then I spent a half-day trying to find three classics I needed. The libraries I frequent didn't carry them. And I definitely can't afford to spend days finding the books I need! Then I found out that many of the classics I need are available free via download. Result: I bought a Kindle, and it's already paid for itself.

Now I'm reading out of author-alpha order to knock out the freebies first. I finished Sister Carrie and have moved on to McTeague. First story I've ever read about a dentist.

One of the unexpected Kindle surprises: any time I read a word I don't know, I can click on it and an embedded dictionary flashes the meaning. With traditional books, I'm too lazy to get up and go find the dictionary. Plus doing so takes too long and interrupts the flow. But with the e-reader, I can cruise along and learn without interrupting the story. Today's word: concertina.
