Trolley Time

I spent most of the week working from home with round two of a respiratory bug that my daughter and husband and I seem determined to share. So I had cabin fever. While my hubby took a trip to scope out some Texas pottery (one of his hobbies), Felicity and I took the kids on an outing.

Flick had the idea to ride the Uptown Trolley, which I'd never done. So I called about tickets and found out it was free. Off to a great start.

We parked (free) at the Cityplace office building. After we descended and ascended the lo-o-ongest escalators, we reached the tram tracks. The kids played around the art cubes while we waited for the trolley on a gorgeous late afternoon. Temps hovered around 79 or 80 degrees. Perfect.

The trolley itself came from Melbourne, Australia—a nice touch for my Aussie friend. It wound through Uptown and finally dropped us at the new Warren Park, which we found crazy crowded. After a few minutes jumping through the spray mists and climbing on ropes, the kids ran circles around us as we walked two blocks to El Fenix for an early taco/fajita/tamale dinner.

When we returned to the park, the crowds had thinned. So the kids played on "the spinny things" (merry-go-rounds) until they discovered the library section. It had newspapers, magazines, books, chess boards, and checkers.

Even my daughter, who says she hates to read, wore a happy face when she saw stacks of People magazine. OMG! Johnny Depp!!! Meanwhile, young Harry soundly defeated me in a chess match.

At dusk, we all headed back to the trolley stop. The train was running behind schedule with the massive numbers of St. Patrick's party revelers it was transporting this weekend, so we played patty-cake while we waited. Little Anika later described that as her favorite part of the day.

We wound back through Uptown and made it to the car shortly after darkness fell.

Good times.
